Learning Administration

Written by

As the learning organization moves towards the global governance and local control policy the need for administrative organization and processes will increase.  The teams responsible for reporting are looking for structure and process and the learners are ultimately looking for simplification of learning.

Potential implementation scenarios will be dictated by several key factors including governance, data structure, content organization, administration, and processes as the chart shows below.  These elements build upon each other in order to provide direction in constructing the proper learning systems configuration and implementation plan.

Bluewater recommends the development on an LMS Administration strategy and implementation plan.  This effort will begin to develop the matrix of administrators who are responsible for the long term operation of the LMS.  In this plan process overview, security roles and responsibilities should be addressed.  In this process, the staffing requirements for administrators should be discussed and mapped to the administration plan.

The diagram below provides an example of the administration matrix and how it might operate within a typical global organization.

This administrative structure provides for lines of accountability, interaction, communication and support.  Only by working together as a team will the administration of the LMS benefit the learner.

Governance and Administration work together for the purpose of supporting the needs of the learner.  The learner should always be the key in any learning system implementation.
